journey, not a destination"

Spring
Bye-bye city, hello nature!
Enjoy the apple blossom time and the spring awakening of nature. The first warm
days of the year invite you to take a walk along the „Waalwege“ - paths which
follow the farmers’ irrigation channels. A worthwhile excursion for both young
and old! Those of you interested in culture may appreciate visiting one of the
numerous museums and castles in the vicinity. If you spend a spring holiday in
this area, you will certainly take home a bunch of sunshine and cheerfulness.
Our suggestion: visit Merano’s Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. Especially in
springtime you can admire the unique bloom of the many flowers and trees.
Summer
The summer welcomes you
with long and sunny days on which you can practice multiple outdoor activities.
Hiking, cycling, swimming or golf – there is surely something for all tastes.
The Texel cable car is at only a few minutes’ walking and takes you to an
altitude of 1544 metres, which makes for a perfect starting point for numerous
hiking tours. If you are a bike lover, you will appreciate the variety of tours
at your choice, either some easy ones like the Val Venosta cycle route, or more
demanding ones like climbing the Passo dello Stelvio by racing bike. Mountain
bikers can start on various tours from Rio Lagundo which you can reach by cable
car. Alternatively you can take your family to swim in one of the lakes, i.e.
the Lake of Caldaro, or to one of the outdoor pools nearby. After an active day
you can chill out on your balcony, sipping a nice glass of local wine.
Autumn
Come to enjoy breaths of
fresh air and nature's enchanting play of colours in autumn. The villages
around Parcines await you with some typical autumn events, among which the
Törggelen is certainly the most famous. Enjoy some classical dishes such as
traditional dumplings (Knödel), cabbage (Kraut), smoked meat and various
sausages, South Tyrolean bacon (Speck), cold cuts and cheeses. For dessert you
can get farmers doughnuts (Krapfen) and the traditionally charcoal roasted
chestnuts, served with young must called “Suser”. In October, the spa town
Merano hosts the traditional grape festival (Traubenfest), and in November the
Wine Festival & Culinaria. Autumn is also a recommendable season for
leisure hikers and culture lovers.
Winter
Plunge into a winter atmosphere
and experience Christmas in the Alps. The surrounding ski resorts like Merano
2000, Monte San Vigilio, Schwemmalm in Val d’Ultimo or the Val Senales glaciers
offer you lots of fun on the snow: either at snowshoeing, skiing or
tobogganing. The Christmas market in Merano and other smaller versions in many
villages are popular destinations for shopping, strolling and drinking mulled
wine (“Glühwein”) during the Advent season.
